"No one sees anything and there is this indescribable level of trust that only comes with years of training."

Dr. Daniel Cross experiences a post-traumatic episode after seeing news coverage of a container ship explosion on television. The FBI contacts him because a former classmate, Graeme Moore, has been named a person of interest in the explosion and has requested Cross' assistance. Cross and Graeme attended high school together, so he decides to reach out to Graeme. However, when Cross meets Graeme, the latter attempts to kill him. Surprisingly, it is revealed that Graeme is actually not Graeme at all but something else entirely. As the investigation unfolds, Cross discovers that a man named Mr. Wu wants him dead. As he navigates this perilous situation, Cross realizes that there is much more at stake than he initially believed.

In his novel, Bott ventures into a territory that is both complex and exciting, exploring the dynamics of a not-so-clear-cut investigation. The protagonist, Cross, drives the narrative, allowing readers to follow the unfolding mystery alongside him. It feels as if both Cross and the readers are navigating the investigation together, aided by the vivid descriptions throughout the story. Additionally, the book's international setting, with its various travel locations, brings different angles to the investigation, adding to the excitement and thrill. Both Cross and the readers share in this exhilarating experience. The author intricately explores Cross' inner thoughts and emotions, providing a profound glimpse into his psyche that allows readers to forge a meaningful connection with him. As the story unfolds, it offers a thrilling array of unexpected twists and turns, keeping the audience captivated and eager to turn each page, fully immersed in the suspenseful journey ahead.
