In the future, as Earth faces its inevitable destruction, several thousand humans are chosen to settle on a new planet and continue the race. Earthlings soon learn that aliens inhabit space with similar biology, and most are guided and cared for by someone called Eve of Eden, a telepath who helped begin and guide life on Earth in its infancy. One Earthling named Terra is directed by Eve to be the new "Mother" of a very young planet and species. Her task is to guide them in developing correctly and avoiding the mistakes that led to Earth's failure. Also, some of these Earthlings will be given the means and opportunity to send a rescue mission to find survivors of Earth's destruction on Earth and Mars. However, the Earthlings need to be cautious, as there are others in the universe who oppose Eve's teaching and look to destroy her and all those she calls her children.
Cisney's first book in the Chronicles series establishes a science fiction series on an epic scale. It encompasses vast expanses of space and time, including the origin and evolution of humans. Aligned with much of the genre, Cisney includes many technological advances, often based on what is currently believed in today's science and on what many have theorized. The antagonists' exact capabilities and motivations are not fully fleshed out in this volume, but Cisney will likely delve into this more deeply in the series' continuation. The writing throughout is fast-paced, and the science never becomes difficult to understand or overwhelms readers interested only in the story. Those looking for an epic, expansive science fiction series may find this series to be their next binge read.
