"…going through the valley of the shadow of death has taught me a lot about who I am and what my purpose is for the kingdom of God."

Alexa and Bryan Stevens are on top of the world: married for seven years, recently pregnant, and copastors of a growing community in addition to finding success as a chef and medical student, respectively. However, their perfect lives are shattered in an instant when a drunk driver smashes into their car, killing Bryan and seriously injuring Alexa. Reeling from the loss of her husband and unborn child, Alexa fights through both physical pain and mental turmoil to slowly piece her life back together. Five years later, she has returned to medical school and her church congregation. She finds purpose in teaching community dance classes with her friends Niyah and Morgan, opening a restaurant in Bryan's honor, and attending Mothers Against Drunk Driving support groups. When she meets Brendon, a faith-filled Christian man who is instantly drawn to her kindness and grace, it seems her world is set back on its axis—that is, until she is confronted by carefully guarded secrets, life-changing circumstances, and an embittered soul intent on destroying all she holds dear.

This novel is a remarkable combination of heartfelt storytelling and gut-wrenching intrigue, sprinkled with romance and religious teachings. Although the book is quite long, the plot does not drag on. Instead, the author provides several unexpected twists to keep the readers hooked. Alexa is an exceptionally likable character, one whose triumphs and tragedies readers will eagerly follow. The supporting characters, including her family and friends, are equally sympathetic. The author explores grief and loss, hope and faith, and the incredible resilience of the human spirit with unflinching honesty and incredible heart. The author's gentle humor and strong faith are evident on every page. With elements of mystery, literary fiction, thriller, and Christian fiction, this work will linger in readers' memories long after they reach its stirring conclusion.
