Get Out of the Darkness
by Aaron Parry
Balboa Press UK

"Jesus implies that the whole world is in darkness, but He promises to bring light into the lives of whoever follows Him."

Author Parry deftly constructs a sagacious metaphor for the limitations of earthly life and the possibilities of relief as revealed by the light of God. His observations are based on Christian truths as found in holy scripture, stating at the outset that Christianity is not about simply going to church, but requires giving one's life to God through Jesus Christ, who declared Himself to be "the light of the world." Darkness, Parry asserts, is a satanic state of separation from, and total lack of, the blessings that will always be available to those who make the commitment to sincere acceptance of God and his son.

To build his well-considered spiritual thesis, Parry has created numerous examples gleaned from daily life, such as the story of a man receiving his first pair of glasses, who, never having realized that his vision was faulty, suddenly perceives the clarity of everything around him. The Holy Spirit, Parry contends, will provide sudden, extensive sight to new believers, just as it brings fire to an unlit candle, or comprehension to those who have been struggling through life's events with spiritual illiteracy. Transformation of one's spirit will require removing, rejecting, and forgetting all earthly ideations, replacing them with "a godly mindset" that will lead to immersion in the transformative kingdom of light.

Parry, a Baptist minister and deacon who has initiated and served in churches in Ghana, where he and his wife started a congregation from their home, now oversees the London, UK, Slough Branch of Trinity Baptist Church. His work targets two audiences: those who have wholly accepted Jesus Christ, and those who, undecided and perhaps ill-informed, will discover through this well-conceived treatise, "the nitty gritty of what Christianity is all about." Parry's work can offer sustenance for group discussion and individual, meditative exploration.
