Heed the Heart
by Wendy Negley

"I think of you
And count the minutes
Till the end
When I can feel
Your kiss again."

This poetry collection offers verses filled with desire, romance, and admiration. Throughout the book, the speaker enjoys being in love and viewing the world through love-filled eyes. Many of the initial poems focus on the speaker’s adoration of their partner. Other poems, like "I Never Thought I’d Love a Cowboy," take a humorous look at attraction and romance. Others lift up the small moments—like being served dinner on a tray so that one can watch TV—that make a relationship special. However, no matter the day, the occasion, or the moment, one message rings clearly in all of these poems—that one should "Trust your heart and treat it well."

These poems are a poetic celebration of love and of life’s moments. They also celebrate the laughter, the lunches, and the little things that make each and every interaction special and savory. These poems show that life is not about waiting but about seizing opportunities, willingly embracing change, and making a way to overcome life’s challenges and embracing the happiness that life offers. In many ways, these poems are a call for individuals to explore their identities, try new ones, and reinvent themselves as they progress through life and love. More so, these poems act as quiet, meditative prayers to the everyday mundanity. They are gentle reminders that, so often, it is not the loud moments one remembers. Instead, it is the joy one finds in the soft, quiet places. For those new to poetry, this collection is a gentle introduction.
