Based on a true story, this children's book is about a mother cat and her four kittens who lived in a restaurant parking lot, where they played and hid from people and cars that scared them because they were feral. Kathy worked at the restaurant and fed them at night. In the winter, she tried to find homes for them, but she struggled to catch the quick kitten. When she did, no one wanted to adopt her.
Finally, A woman named Debbie agreed to adopt the young cat and named her Ruby. The vet said she was six months old and feral. Ruby continued to hide in the house, and when she was six, Debbie adopted two socialized kittens, Cosmo and Mia, who were interested in Ruby. Ruby became interested in them and started to socialize with them. Debbie got her a window box, which Ruby loved. The kittens helped Ruby to find her courage and become part of the family.
This sweet little book examines the trauma of a feral feline and what it is like for the cat and its caretaker. But it also shows that feral cats can be socialized with time, attention, love, and various techniques. More importantly, it shows children the value of all animals. The narrative also emphasizes the benefits of being patient, learning to love and care for other creatures, and of being kind. From the restaurant worker who fed the cats in the first place and worked to get them adopted to the person who eventually adopted Ruby, kindness is shown to matter greatly.
