In Search of Easter

"'Surely we'll find Jesus here.' Scottie patted Simon."

After a previous adventure to find Christmas, during which a young couple, Mark and Jenny, adopted a boy named Scottie, the whole family goes on an Easter egg hunt alongside their rescue dogs. Everyone in the community has a good time, but Mark's comment that people are more eager to find eggs than Jesus leads Scottie to fear that Jesus and Easter are lost. The next day, Scottie and his puppy, Simon, go all over town asking everyone about the matter, but each person says Jesus isn't there. Then Scottie and Simon encounter Brother Bill, a man deeply devoted believer, who recounts the biblical account of Jesus' resurrection. He claims that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be with everyone, so it is everywhere, and Scottie feels he has found Easter. Later, when Mark and Jenny ask for the details, Scottie simply quotes a direct passage from the Bible.

This fully illustrated book is appropriate for Christian families who want to introduce their children to the Easter story in a new way. It is the sequel to another book that tackled Christmas in a similar way, making the series a good choice for Sunday schools, church libraries, or Christian schools. It is also refreshing to see a protagonist in a wheelchair who leads a very active life and travels so freely on his own (accompanied by his puppy pal, Simon). The rescue dogs mentioned at the start of the book, who once helped find Christmas, do not take part in the actual search this time but make brief appearances towards the beginning and the end. Rather, it is Scottie and Simon who are the ones on the hunt for Jesus and Easter. Overall, this is a solid read for its target audience.
