When Stuart Jones finally gets his foot in the door of the journalism business, he's assigned an editorial position of a floundering, neglected religion section of the paper. He's able to rally his troops around a vision to promote the diverse communities in their metropolitan area by interviewing and discussing faith with leaders of the primary faiths about their beliefs and congregations. Stuart also strikes up a fast relationship with Jennifer, the editor-in-chief's daughter, and the two quickly discover their compatibility. But Stuart's past is just a step behind him, and his situation quickly becomes complicated, especially now that Jennifer is in the picture. What follows is an incredible journey of creating, losing, and discovering family, each in different and distinct ways, set against a backdrop of spirituality and faith in the many forms it takes.
Throughout much of the book, the story alternates between focusing on the characters and their growing relationships and on the articles being written, presented as interviews, and then published in the fictional paper. It serves as a kind of narrative introduction to discussions of faith, highlighting the surprising similarities and differences in attitude each one brings to the table. As the story evolves, however, it makes room for the growing complications and concerns of Stuart and Jennifer, as well as those around them. Each chapter offers a new twist and heightens the drama and emotions of the family-focused narrative. This story offers constant surprises and charming, endearing characters, making the audience immediately invested and determined to see how they grow together and endure everything that comes their way.
