Letters From Jesus: Poems of Guidance

"My friends, where are you?
I've been alone for so long
I feel abandoned...alone"

Many Christians point to struggles and personal difficulties as opportunities from God to learn and grow, citing the old adage that "everything happens for a reason." While it's common to look back and reflect on those moments for important self-discovery, the author of this book shares a collection of poems she created in dark, challenging times to help herself keep moving forward, hoping it might help others do the same. Poems about being shunned and ostracized, or unrequited love, are balanced by observations on the wonders of creation and the security found in walking with the Lord. This dual perspective highlights the weight of life at its hardest points with the enlightenment and relief found in true, deeply held spirituality.

The eight chapters of this collection group the poems by subject, creating cohesive groups that maintain a consistent theme. The poet opens each chapter with a description of the life events or ideas that inspired these poems, adding a personal touch and providing a frame of reference for the writing itself. This helps the reader connect with the material if they are experiencing similar circumstances or thoughts, and it also helps them decode the meanings and feelings in each poem. At the same time, the focus on the emotional, introspective thoughts and feelings of going through various hardships keeps the writing universally effective, maintaining an autobiographical viewpoint without becoming a memoir. Readers are invited in to feel and empathize, and come away from this collection with the same sense of security.
