James Vagus graduated from St. Michael's Academy for Boys in 1965. The sisters who cared for him while he was at the orphanage attended his graduation since he had no family. During his time in the orphanage, James had hoped that someone would adopt him, but that never happened. Although he does not plan to attend college, he receives an unexpected offer from a mysterious man named John Smith, who invites him to become a secret agent at MIS-X. James's mission is to track down a researcher named Van Heerden, who has been murdering his investors after receiving their funds. To accomplish this task, James will be working alongside his partner, Dakota.

In his novel, James engages readers by taking them on a journey alongside Dakota and James as they seek to locate Van Heerden. The author employs vivid descriptions to effectively bring the various settings encountered by the main characters to life.
