"Skylar pleaded, her eyes twinkling with the promise of unsung mischief."

This book for young children explores the relationship between Skylar and her mother. Her mother grants her extra time before bedtime as she bounces on her bed. Her mom challenges her to bounce higher and to sing a song while she's jumping. Skylar has fun doing this, and she dances while singing, using her "cool dance moves." Mom reminds her to brush her teeth, and Skylar narrates during this task. When she returns to her bedroom, she hugs her mom and tells her she's the best mom in the world. They continue to play and talk about smelly feet, laugh, tickle, and have fun. Finally, Skylar is sleepy and falls into a dreamy slumber while her mom wishes for more adventures for the next day.

While the tale reveals the importance of bedtime routine, including brushing one's teeth, it is also about the value of having fun and the relationship between a child and a parent. Routine and structure are important for a child's development, and making such a routine entertaining adds creativity to what could be a boring task. Having fun is about love and relationships, and Skylar is shown having fun through singing and dancing, and even while narrating while brushing her teeth. The love between parent and child is also shown throughout this simple evening task, as is respect for one another. The book takes on an overlooked topic and turns it into a story of entertainment and caring, making it easy for children to understand.
