After worldwide wars cause famine and drought on Earth, Joe and Martha are forced to leave their desecrated farm. The Movement is now the law of the land, and those who don't follow their philosophy and reject the required mark on the forehead or wrist are rounded up by The Betrayer. Joe and Martha search for the Finder, whom they hope will guide them to safety. They are skeptical when they discover that Jane, the Finder, is blind. She agrees to lead them and keep them safe and fed. They arrive at a cave that provides adequate shelter and is stocked with basic food items. Here Jane tells them she awaits Jesus, whose appearance is announced by seven trumpet blasts as prophesied. As the battle between Christ and the Betrayer draws near, believers prepare to stand with Jesus against the false Messiah—aka the Beast, the Betrayer, the villain of Revelation.
Gilbreth draws on Old Testament prophecies and the Book of Revelation to craft a fascinating story set in the last days. After the Antichrist rises to power, he creates an authoritarian government that exerts complete control over the people. Mandatory membership in The Movement is strictly enforced, and members must receive the mark of the beast, a mark which seals its wearer to the Antichrist and prevents involvement with the true Messiah, Jesus Christ. Gilbreth's characters are well-rounded, and his dialogue is sharp and believable. Using the lives of ordinary people, Gilbreth touches upon themes such as the power of divine intervention, hope, courage, and compassion. Jane's revelations about her life, her unshakeable belief in Jesus Christ, and her nurturing nature reinforce the novel's themes. Gilbreth has penned a masterful tale that grabs the attention from page one and never lets go.
