Cameron receives a call from an enthusiastic Byron, who tells him that aliens have contacted him, and he must come quickly to his remote estate. Though he has doubts about the validity of Byron's claim, when Cameron learns his nemesis, Triston, is on his way to Byron's, he decides to join them. The claim is real, and the two are recruited to help man the fighter spacecraft that are built for pilots much larger than the small, winged aliens known as Dangerous Wileys. The aliens convince them to help, but when Byron backs out, they end up accidentally kidnapping Christy, the roommate of Cameron's very recent ex. With the three humans in tow, the Wileys prepare them for battle. As the three face the impending attack, they seek answers from the sarcastic, evasive Wileys and discover the fate of Earth may lie in their hands.
One of the most delightful aspects of this science fiction novel is the characterization of the aliens. The Wileys are comical, quick-witted little creatures with hilarious comebacks to their three human companions. Though they consider humans to be crybabies and rather stupid, they still need them to man their fighter ships. The interactions between the humans and Wileys provide many a chuckle as the plot builds to the ultimate showdown with their enemy. There are tense moments during the battle and plenty of plot twists to keep readers fully engaged. The author is a master at writing believable dialogue and entertaining wordplay, which is both witty and humorous. Fans of science fiction are sure to enjoy this tale, but it is an engaging read for anyone who enjoys a well-told story.
