"And the big news here is that meteorologist Amelia Winstead, who went out into the field to follow storms that were gathering in Paducah, Kentucky, has gone missing."

This cozy mystery follows the stories of Ellie Moore and Amelia Winstead. Ellie, age twenty-three, left the Army with a less-than-honorable discharge due to what she believes was no fault of her own. Living with her two-year-old son, Carter, in their trailer, and with help from her mother, Harper, Ellie tries to make ends meet by working at a gas station/convenience store in Paducah, Kentucky. She is fascinated by storm chasing and is a fan of meteorologist Amelia Winstead, who stops at the station when visiting Paducah to chase her own storms with her cameraman.

This event piques Ellie's reemerging interest in meteorology and storm chasing. The newspeople find Ellie at work and bring up her past Army problems just as it is discovered that Amelia and her cameraman have gone missing. Ellie feels she must do something to help find the missing while, at the same time, help is on her way regarding the issues with her ex. Can life really change for her?
