"There is a saying on the Camino that the first part of the Camino is physical, the second part is emotional, and the third part is spiritual."

This small but thoughtful book examines the author's three walking trips along the Camino, culminating in a 1200-mile solo pilgrimage from Paris to Santiago de Compostela. In twelve chapters, it explores the physical and emotional aspects of the journey, the relationships the author forms along the way, and, most significantly, the religious and spiritual insights he gains through this physical and metaphorical path.

LaRocca-Pitts was given a vision to develop a new spiritual path, the Way of New Beginning, and the Now+, which results in what he sees as an "auto-theology"—a memoir and a theology. His narrative continues by focusing on the history of the Camino, the metaphor of the Way, and how we need to unlearn and adapt, trust intuition, and trust the way and God. The book explores death as a transition and forgiveness, and uses biblical passages and metaphors for examination. The text also examines shadow and concludes with a references section.

This work is a thorough examination of the author's belief in the Way of New Beginning and the Now+, which focuses on our being, our daily life, and our intentions, which continue even into death. This is the life of the spiritual path, of being in the Now and the Now+ of what is becoming. This is not a new thought, but it is examined in a new, thoughtful presentation, and using the walking of the Camino as a metaphor is a delightful way to express this viewpoint. The author's goal was to receive a vision from God, and this book successfully explores that vision. It is well written, with a Christian focus, as the author is a Methodist minister, though it also acknowledges other religious/spiritual paths as valuable. Overall, the author has produced an insightful read.
