Dr. Trell Amundsen is invited to view a group of unusual crystals discovered by seismologist Dr. Gene Harshaw while diving off the coast of Scotland and Ireland. After meeting with Dr. Harshaw and seeing these crystals found in pottery dating back to 11,000 B.C., he discovers that one is encrypted with a message: “Return to Dr. T. Amundsen, SGI, Menlo Park, CA, USA.” Trell begins to conduct tests on the crystal, during which he is transported back to the time of Atlantis to find himself in the company of Lyra, High Priestess of the Temple of the Moon. Here he becomes Ta-rel, the voyager, and his life in Atlantis takes him down many paths. But it is his relationship with Lyra, his true soul mate, which will define both him and the future of Atlantis. Will the two be able to prevent what had been told in the legends of Ta-rel’s time?
This is a fascinating look at mythological Atlantis. With its strong central characters and a plethora of supporting characters, it is epic in scope. One of its most interesting aspects is the nature and power of the ever-present crystals. The novel draws on the differences and similarities between modern times and the time of Atlantis. Greed, the desire for power, and individual responsibility are all themes within this book, as is the importance of being attuned with nature. There is something for every reader here. Elements of sci-fi and fantasy, time travel, and a great love story all intermingle in this work. This novel is one that will intrigue anyone who is interested in Atlantis or who enjoys reading stories that are just plain entertaining.
