Larry Fumio Miwa and Stephen Hiroshi Miwa

My father rediscovered his diary late 2008, 63 years after his last written "Hiroshima" entry and wholeheartedly wished to share it as a tiny hope for peace and reconciliation. From 2009 at age 77, until his last months of his life at age 91, my father actively shared his Hiroshima A-Bomb experience and provided forty-six detailed reflections to accompany the majority of the book's illustrations. Additionally, he wanted the book's acknowledgement to thank everyone who assisted, supported, and collaborated on two book publications about his family (Tadaima!) and his diary (Gambare Hiroshima!). Gambare Hiroshima went on to become an Eric Hoffer Book Award First Horizon Finalist.

About the Authors: Larry Fumio Miwa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1931. His family relocated to Hiroshima, Japan when Larry was two years old. Incredibly, Larry’s family survived the August 6, 1945, Hiroshima atomic bombing. Larry returned to Hawaii in 1946, and rediscovered his "Hiroshima" diary, 63 years later. Larry Miwa passed away on March 17, 2023, Saint Patrick’s Day, at the age of 91. The Larry Miwa Peace Foundation (LMPF) was established to present Larry’s diary book as a "tiny message for peace and reconciliation." Monetary and book donatons to peace related causes are the core mission of the foundation. Gambare Hiroshima – Don’t Give Up! was distributed to every invited dignitary from around the world who attended the 80th Anniversary Ceremony of the Hiroshima Atomic Bombing Ceremony in Hiroshima, Japan. Interestingly, The US Review of Books compares Larry’s dairy to that of another WWII diarist, the incomparable Anne Frank.
